Loc Lovin Chicago has arrived to SMASH negative associations with locked hair. Chicago has more people with locked hair than any other place in the world!  No research yet, just sheer observation. This is the only place I have ever seen in modern culture where wearing locs transcends age, gender, or social strata...grandmothers, teenagers, bus drivers, toddlers, corporate, models, you name it!  Something is brewing here in Chicago and locked hair is a part of that stirring.  

 

It takes courage to wear your hair in locs. When it comes to locked hair, we've seen the prefix "dread" added to locs, to portray this hairstyle as dreadful. In a society that does not traditionally value natural Black hair, Loc Lovin Chicago becomes a validating force that creates power and pride amongst its members.  

 

The Loc Lovin Chicago movement  demonstrates a connection between the locs of  Ancient Afrikans, while telling the revealing stories of current Loc Lovin Chicagoans who choose to sport locs over other hairstyles.
